South Korean swimming sensation Hwang Sun-woo (20-Gangwon Provincial Office) has won his second gold medal of the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games.
Hwang Sun-woo was the first to touch the touchpad in the men's 200m freestyle final in an Asian Games record time of 1:44.40 on Sunday at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center Aquatic Sports Arena at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games in Zhejiang, China.
After winning bronze in the 100-meter freestyle on the first day of competition on Thursday, Hwang won gold in the men's 800-meter freestyle relay as part of the team event on Friday. On the 26th, he added a silver medal in the men's 400-meter medley relay.
He won his fourth medal of the day, making it two gold medals.
"I'm so happy to be on the highest podium in the world after breaking my personal record (44.42)," said Hwang.
Hwang's teammate on the day, Lee Ho-joon (Daegu Metropolitan Government), won the bronze medal in 1:45.56.
This is the first time in 21 years that two South Korean athletes have placed together in a single management event at an Asian Games since Cho Sung-mo (silver) and Han Kyu-chul (bronze) in the men's 1500m freestyle at Busan 2002.
Hwang said: "My teammate Ho Jun-yi also swam a good time and got a bronze medal. It feels good to see that our Korean swimming team has really improved," he said.
"We finished the individual events with good results. Now we want to finish well in the mixed medley relay, which is right after."
