Wolverhampton are looking to sign Danny Ings (31, West Ham United) on loan. With Hwang Hee-chan (27) away at the Asian Cup, Fabio Silva (21) at Rangers, and Sasha Kalajic (26) on loan to Frankfurt, they are short on strikers.
England's 'The Athletic' reported on July 7 (KST), "Wolverhampton are interested in signing West Ham striker Ings on loan. Ings, whose contract expires in the summer of 2025, has seen his role in the team reduced as most of his 17 appearances in all competitions this season have been as a substitute."
"While there has been no contact between the clubs, Wolverhampton are monitoring Ings' situation and could make a move at a later date. Wolverhampton last made an enquiry for Ings in January 2023, but the player chose to sign for West Ham."
The Telegraph also reports that "Wolverhampton are aiming to spend nothing this transfer window, and West Ham's Ings has emerged as a potential target. Wolverhampton manager Gary O'Neill wants to sign a No.9 and a winger and is keen to bring Ings in on loan."
After a shaky start to the season, Wolverhampton have bounced back. A recent three-game winning streak on Boxing Day helped them leapfrog up to 11th in the Premier League. With just three points separating them from seventh-placed Brighton (31 points), they could be in with a chance of qualifying for Europe depending on their future performances.
However, there is a crisis ahead for about a month. Hwang Hee-chan, one of the team's key players, will be out for the Asian Cup. Hwang has been an ace for Wolverhampton this season, scoring 10 goals and adding three assists in the league alone. On top of that, Silva and Kalajic are also out on loan, so the void will be critical.
Ings is emerging as a target. Ings is an English striker who has played for Bournemouth, Burnley, Liverpool, Southampton, Aston Villa, and West Ham. He rose to prominence during his time at Southampton. In the 2019-20 season, he finished 토토 second in the Premier League with 22 goals. This performance earned him a call-up to the England national team.
Since then, he hasn't had much success. In league terms, he scored seven goals and six assists in 30 games for Villa in 2021-22, six goals in 18 games in 2022-23 (first half), two goals and two assists in 17 games for West Ham in 2022-23 (second half), and 10 appearances in 2023-24.
Wolverhampton are looking to fill the void by signing Ings on loan, and a deal is believed to be in the works.
