Description
Jeymes Samuel's main goal with The Book of Clarence Afdah is to provide an enjoyable experience rather than focusing on creating a masterpiece. However, this approach still makes it worth your time and money. This is the second film from the British multi-hyphenate, and it shares similarities with his first Netflix-backed project, The Harder They Fall. Both films feature an all-black cast in a genre that has historically overlooked this demographic. The story kicks off with an exhilarating drag race on sandy streets, similar to a chariot race. The protagonist, Clarence, and his friend Elijah have placed a significant bet involving money and horses against Mary Magdalene.
