What can we do to start preparing for a possible disaster? The ideal situation is to buy a piece of land with wells, ponds or streams and some woods. But we can't all do that. If you work very rudely while camping, it is very likely that you will have something you need to survive in the wild, and you can start with these things and continue to develop on this basis. If you live in a suburb or a small town like me, we can do something to prepare for survival.
The most important item is water. Try to buy a good water filter that does not consume electricity. For this, you also need to prepare some filters. Some rely on gravity, and some smaller ones are less expensive. There are also large water bags you can buy to fill with water, or you can hang them (on the branches outside). This way you can prepare a little filtered water for drinking or cooking. Find or buy rain barrels and place them under the eaves of your home.
If you live in a warm climate but you have The Lost Ways Book, you might be this year. For those of us who are cold in winter, if we have storage space at home, we can buy and fill up special buckets. If necessary, buy some water purification tablets on hand to purify them for drinking. Store a small amount of filtered water in a large container (preferably glass or at least a large blue jug). Smaller jars can be placed at the bottom of the cabinet, placed on thick cardboard or 1-inch plywood, and stacked in the second row. Stick post-it notes on them until you put water in them. Use them from the earliest date, then reload them and enter the date. In this way, if there is no electricity for a few days, you will have to drink water and cook.
And, if something worse happens, you will need to use some (and filters) until you get organized to do what you need to do. You usually have the opportunity to extract some water from the city's water tank for other purposes. But remember The Lost Ways training, other people may have the same idea. I think that pumping water into the tank may require electricity, and it may drain quickly. If there is no water, make sure you have some water tanks available. I don’t recommend buying a lot of plastic water bottles for storage, because I don’t believe that plastic is so safe for long-term storage. However, it depends on everyone's decision. There are some water bottles with filters (usually a quarter size). You can fill them from streams or ponds and cover them and suck water through a straw. It is filtered as it passes through the straw.
