Description
Hollywood frequently uses the assertion that "Boneyard" is inspired by true events as a way of indicating that the plot is heavily fictionalised. The movie is based on the 2009 discovery of 11 women's bodies buried close to Albuquerque, New Mexico, in the West Mesa Murders case. With the real-life tragedy, screenwriters Hank Byrd, Vincent E. McDaniel, Koji Steven Sakai, and Asif Akbar take artistic licence to create a story that explores various viewpoints from law enforcement and people battling mental health concerns. The creators may have wanted to pay tribute to the victims, but Akbar's use of B-movie exploitation tropes undermines their good intentions, making for an unappealing movie with unimpressive performances.
