Scorpions have been shaping the global rock landscape for six decades. Founded in 1965 in Hanover by guitarist Rudolf Schenker, the band evolved from small club shows into international stardom. A pivotal moment came with the arrival of vocalist Klaus Meine in 1969, whose voice became the signature of the band’s classic sound. Their early work, including Lonesome Crow (1972) and Fly to the Rainbow (1974), explored progressive and experimental directions. The addition of guitarist Uli Jon Roth marked a shift toward melodic hard rock, captured in albums like Virgin Killer (1976) and Taken by Force (1977).
A major breakthrough followed in 1979 with Lovedrive, the first record featuring guitarist Matthias Jabs. With tracks like “Always Somewhere” and “Holiday,” Scorpions gained international recognition. The 1980s marked a high point in their career, with three platinum albums released between 1980 and 1988.
The 1990 release Crazy World included the timeless anthem “Wind of Change,” a rock ballad that became a symbol of the fall of the Berlin Wall and a call for peace. In 1992, the band received the World Music Award as Germany’s most successful rock act. In the years that followed, they continued to experiment, with albums such as Face the Heat (1993) and Pure Instinct (1996).
Throughout the 21st century, Scorpions remained active on the world stage, releasing acclaimed albums like Unbreakable (2004) and Sting in the Tail (2010). Despite announcing retirement, the band returned revitalized, with Return to Forever (2015) and Rock Believer (2022), further cementing their legacy as a global rock force.
