If your Samsung refrigerator has stopped working or cooling, check the following parts:

  • condenser fan motor
  • Try turning the fan blades by hand. If they do not rotate freely, the motor is likely bad and should be replaced. You can also try using oil on the blades to see if they just need greasing - https://appliancerepairshymon.ca/

But if the blades spin freely and nothing is keeping them stuck in one place, test the motor with a multimeter to check for continuity. If there is no continuity, replace the fan motor.

  • starter relay
  • Check the relay between the start and run terminals using a multimeter to check for continuity. If there is no continuity between the terminals, replace the relay. And if the relay smells burnt or makes noise, replace it.

The relay helps the compressor to operate. If it is defective, the compressor may not operate or may operate erratically. As a result, the refrigerator may not operate or cool.

  • capacitor coils
  • Take a look at the condenser coils to determine if they are dirty. Dirty coils cannot effectively dissipate heat from the refrigerator. As a result, the refrigerator will draw heat from the refrigerant passing through the coils, causing it to overheat and not cool. Therefore, clean them thoroughly and make sure to repeat the cleaning process once every 6 months.
  • Evaporator fan motor
  • Turn the fan blades to see if they spin freely. If they don't, it means that the motor is probably defective and should be replaced. And if the motor is noisier than it used to be, replace it.

However, if the fan motor is not working, test its coils with a multimeter to check for continuity. If there is no continuity, replace the motor.

The fan distributes cold air in the freezer and refrigerator. If the refrigerator seems to have stopped or is not cooling, the fan motor could be bad.

It could also mean that there is ice around the fan blades, making it impossible for cold air to circulate. Defrost ice, if any, by manually defrosting the unit or carefully using a hair dryer.

  • Air damper control
  • Check if the damper is stuck and closed. If it is, it means that it can no longer open and close automatically. Therefore, replace the damper so that cold air can enter the refrigerator from the freezer section. The hatch is located between the freezer section and the fresh food section.
  • starting capacitor
  • Check the start capacitor with a multimeter. If there is no reading on the multimeter, replace the capacitor as soon as possible.

This is because the capacitor gives the compressor a boost of power to start. If it is defective and not replaced, the compressor may not work at all and the refrigerator may not work.

Other parts that can cause the refrigerator to stop working or cooling if they are defective are:

  • Compressor
  • Temperature control thermostat
  • thermistor
  • Temperature control board
  • main control board
  • So, if you find that your Samsung refrigerator or freezer has stopped working, follow these steps to fix it.
