The Korean women's fencing epee team has reached the final of the team event at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games, where they will attempt to win a second consecutive gold medal following the individual competition.
The Korean team of Choi In-jung (Gyeryong City Hall), Song Sera (Busan Metropolitan Government), Kang Young-mi (Gwangju Seo-gu Office) and Lee Hye-in (Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province) defeated China 30-27 in the semifinals of the women's epee team event at Dianzu University Gymnasium in Hangzhou, China, on Sept. 27.
After sweeping both the gold and silver medals in the individual events earlier in the day, the women's epee team continued its strong performance by securing the silver medal.
South Korea will face Hong Kong for the gold medal at 8:05 p.m.
Korea struggled early on, falling behind 7-11 after three bouts.
However, on the fourth bout, Kang Young-mi scored five points while giving up just one to Tang Jun-yao to level the score at 12-12.
Substitute Choi In-Jung turned the game around in the fifth bout. Choi, who won the gold medal in the individual epee at the tournament, came in for Lee Hye-in and won 4-2 against Sun Yi Yen to give Korea a 16-14 lead.
The Koreans maintained a two-point lead by playing conservatively but allowed Kang Young-mi to catch up in the eighth vault to close the gap to 23-22.
