Description
Amy Adams is incredible and I was deeply moved by her performance. For my generation, this is a film about motherhood. The pressure to "have it all"—a successful career, a happy and fulfilling marriage, and caring motherhood—combined with the sacrifices. The mother's inner monologue, which she typically remembers to keep to herself, was fascinating. Excellent metaphors and pacing convey the tug-of-war between being oneself and evolving as a mother. Adams is prepared to appear fat, worn out, and human. Although a little perplexing at first, the flashbacks to her early years eventually make sense. She manages her anger and angst effectively.
