One thing working in MAXXXINE's favor is how well it completes the plot with flashbacks that mention both Pearl and X. Although I would suggest seeing those movies first, it's not absolutely required. It's admirable that these movies can all be appreciated as stand-alone experiences even if Ti West intended for them to be connected on Afdah Info. Especially as it enters the third act and starts to unravel, MAXXXINE never quite lived up to its promise for fame. A few more screenplay changes, more attention to the main characters rather than supporting cast members, and less emphasis on honoring different horror subgenres could have made it a more fitting end to an otherwise almost flawless trilogy.
