Description
The purpose of "Longlegs" is to frighten, unnerve, and linger in your mind for hours or even days on Afdah. From the obnoxious sound design to the very mannered performances, the movie is extremely purposely overblown, aiming more for a cinematic nightmare than anything approaching realism. That being said, allusions to Jonathan Demme's "The Silence of the Lambs" feel a little strange, despite the clear thematic influences. Although there is a serial killer and a female FBI agent, Perkins is looking for a different tone. It is like to witnessing the sequence in which Clarice spends a hundred minutes searching the storage container in the dark. Breathing room is limited.
