Description
The strange thing about "Goodrich" is that Andy gets off too easily. Michael Keaton doesn't play an arrogant, overly selfish father, just a guy who's spent his life working, not his family. This is the most vulnerable portrayal of Michael Keaton I've ever seen, and he plays Goodrich as a nice guy who works too hard (his biggest mistake is that he keeps getting his daughters' names wrong). Mila Kunis shows anger towards him in special moments, but is surprised that he shows interest in her life. Then there are too many scenes where part-time actor Terry (Michael Urie) hits Andy, but he has a son who is a classmate of Andy's twin children (Andy's other child is his son Mose, played by debutant actor Jacob Kopela). Terry seems like a supporting character who often sobs like a small child - he just seemed annoying.
Goodrich is a harmless, entirely likeable film with an irresistible emotional ending. Keaton and Kunis work in amazing harmony and are so believable as father and daughter that you almost wish the film was just about them. Kunis's bright smile as her father calls her soulmate is wonderful. This is a better midlife crisis/Michael Keaton movie than Birdman. You can stream this film on Afdah stream.
