Monthly casino sales by South Korea's foreign-only operators Grand Korea Leisure Inc. and Paradise Inc. surged year-on-year in November, according to their respective filings with the Korea Exchange on Friday.
Grand Korea Leisure saw a 589.1 percent increase in sales compared to the same month in 2021. 슬롯머신 Paradise reported a 300-percent increase.
Neither company commented on why, but the improvement is consistent with reports of an increase in foreign visitors as COVID-19 restrictions ease.
Grand Korea Leisure reported that its casino sales reached nearly 28.2 billion won ($21.7 million) in November. On a month-on-month basis, however, Grand Korea Leisure's casino sales actually fell 19.0 percent from what it achieved in October.
Paradise Co. recorded casino sales of nearly 39.57 billion won in November. However, it decreased sequentially by 14.9 percent each month.
Grand Korea Leisure's table game sales fell 20.8 percent from the previous month to W25.58 billion. Machine game sales rose 4.5 percent sequentially to W2.61 billion.
The latest result took Grand Korea Leisure's total casino sales for the calendar year to Nov. 30 to 234.62 billion won, up 195.3 percent year-on-year.
The company's casino 'drop' - The amount customers paid to buy chips fell 2.0 percent on-month to W256.05 billion in November. Looking at the calendar through Nov. 30, this drop was close to W1.74 trillion, a 160.6 percent increase.
Grand Korea Leisure operates three foreigner-only casinos in Korea under the Seven Luck brand: two in the capital city of Seoul and one in the southern port city of Busan.
Grand Korea Leisure is a subsidiary of the Korea Tourism Organization and is affiliated with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
Paradise Inc.'s table game sales in November were 35.88 billion won, down 16.8 percent from October. Machine game sales were just under 3.69 billion won, up 8.4 percent from the previous month.
Paradise's table drop in November was W367.07 billion, down 11.1 percent from the previous month. During the calendar year to Nov. 30, Paradise's table drop rose 55.8 percent to W2.41 trillion.
