Professional soccer K League 1 club Suwon FC announced on Sunday that it has terminated the contract of Lars Veltvik, who has come under fire for drunk driving.
Suwon FC held its second squad management committee meeting on the 20th and voted to terminate Lars' contract.
"We made this decision based on Suwon FC's principle that socially condemned behavior is unacceptable to anyone and should be dealt with firmly," the club said in a statement, adding, "We plan to conduct periodic team trainings as a wake-up call to all members of the club."
The Gangnam Police Station in Seoul filed charges against Lars on March 7 on suspicion of drunk driving. Lars is accused of driving drunk on a road near Exit 1 of Sinsa Station in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. His blood alcohol level was found to be above the license revocation level (0.08%).
In response, the KFA held its 10th punishment committee on March 10 and handed down a 15-game suspension and a fine of 4 million won.
