Description
Considering Campbell's long career, it's surprising that Dirty Angels is his first film as a screenwriter. What's clear is that he's a big fan of mission-based action movies like The Dirty Dozen and Inglourious Basterds. Campbell doesn't dive deep into the conflict, instead portraying everything and people in the Middle East from an American perspective. And that's okay, because people are drawn to the explosions, gunfights, and (let's be honest) hot female action in this film. There's plenty of both, and Green proves once again how authentic and memorable she can be. Jake is the only character we really identify with emotionally, but Green's co-stars are suitably unapologetic. Campbell doesn't shy away from deadly danger in his own line of work, and the death toll among his platoon is alarmingly high. Campbell focuses on the team's growing harmony and resilience in the heat of battle. It's a shame the film couldn't spend more time exploring who Jake is beyond his past tragedies. The film is available on Flixtor film.
